I am interested in every aspect of genetics and genomics and theirs use in aquaculture. Following the successful genomic sequencing of several species of interest to global aquaculture, such as Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout, our challenge now is to decipher the information encoded within their genomes and apply this knowledge to improve the sustainability of aquaculture. Currently, , I lead an interdisciplinary research group of professionals including including marine biologists, biochemists, biotechnologists, agricultural engineers, aquaculture, veterinarians and mathematicians, with the mission with the mission of providing sustainability alternatives to the aquaculture industry. If you are interested in contributing to the development of aquaculture at a global level, contact me and let’s talk about alternatives for you to join our team.
Currently, I teach genetics, genomics and biostatistics in the following under and postgraduate programs.
PhD in Biotechnology offered jointly by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.
Master in Microbiological Sciences offered by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
Our research group is committed with effective scientific communication and training new scientists and professionals, with the support of different research agencies (ANID CHILE, OCDE, STINT SWEDEN) and with the sponsorship of the Chilean Genetics Society.
Started in 2011, our genetics training portfolio has recently expanded to genomics and biostatistics. It contains from short course to postgraduate diploma (Training opportunities here). Visit our github websites to download all the teaching material for free (BetaProjectR and GenomicsEducation).
Since 2020, after all schools were closed due to the pandemic, almost all our high school programs were moved online. GENETICS WITH PROGRAMMING is a curricular enrichment program for students of public schools in the Valparaiso region, which strengthens their cognitive and academic skills.
GENES AND GENOMES WITH PROGRAMMING is a summer school workshop open to high school students from all over Chile, and very soon to all Latin American high school students too.
